Afghanistan bipartisanship, bank bashing and class struggle in France – Saturday’s socialist speak out

Well, the great Afghanistan debate in the Australian Parliament has been had – and so have we. Not surprisingly Labor and the Liberals, the two conservative parties, the parties of Australian imperialism, argued or rather lied for ‘continuing the course’. By this they mean killing more Afghan civilians and resistance fighters. All this for the ANZUS alliance, a piece of paper that comforts the Australian ruling class in its expansion under the umbrella of the might of US imperialism and, perhaps, guarantees American support in the case of Chinese expansion.

In other news the ‘free marketeers’ from the Liberal Party suggested reining in the banks, and the ‘socialists’ from the Labor Party praised these institutions of finance and the market which sometimes supports them. Of course rather than the market during the global financial crisis it was our money and government guarantees that provided a fair amount of support to the Australian banks.

The Joe Hockey nonsense is really a  sideshow. The answer is not neoliberal keynesianism or the Liberal or Labor variants but for workers to bring the banks under the control of those who produce the wealth – us.

Overshadowing all this is the class struggle in France where workers are challenging the dictatorship of capital, at this stage inchoately, through strikes and demonstrations. This has the potential to become something of world historical significance – not just driving back neoliberalism but opening up the possibility of a new and democratic society where production is organised to satisfy human need. That is socialism.

Occupez les lieux de travail. Occupy the workplaces!

John ,Keating should never have sold off the Commomwealth Bank. Each year in Aust, $91 billion is added to our economy to equal inflation +GDP increases. 95% of this money is created from nothing by the private banking system as debt and not as a tax credit. The result is that eventually the total amount of money in our economy will equal the total amount of debt. That is why we have no money for
infrastructure and basic services. by Bill Still .You can download this award winning doco for free and know how they are robbing us blind.
