Marxism 2013 Conference
“Marxism is one of the best forums for debate in Australia” John Pilger gives a glowing review of the Marxism Conference. He will be returning to speak at Marxism 2013. Buy your tickets online today at www.marxismconference.org The talk on Saturday at 4 pm about taxing the rich looks interesting too.  Wonder who is giving that one? (0)

Marx and taxing economic rent in Australia
A very amateurish first draft by me on Marx and taxing economic rent, with too much explanation of basic ideas and then off on tangents and misunderstood ideas. http://docs.business.auckland.ac.nz/Doc/51-John-Passant.pdf

An article of mine on superannuation tax rorts in the Canberra Times
This is an article of mine in the Canberra Times on Tuesday 12 February. I argue that the benefits of the superannuation tax concessions go disproportionately and overwhelmingly to the rich and that it’s time to end the super tax rorts. (3)

The 99 Passant
I am about half through compiling the first volume of my most read (readers’ view) or most interesting (my view) articles from this blog.  Keep an eye out for Volume I of the 99 Passant when it is published later this year. I’ll keep you updated. (0)

More threats
As some of you may know I have been censoring the posts of a serial pest who makes anti-Muslim and racist comments and has in the past threatened me. He has posted again saying that the next time he is in my area – he names my street – he’ll ‘drop in to say g’day’. Clearly this is an attempt to further intimidate me. If anything happens to me or my family here are his details to provide to police.  jack 58.96.105.106  He has a druid name email at txc. (0)

Doctors and other bruises
I am having various tests and analysis done with a range of doctors over the coming weeks so may not be as communicative as normal on this blog. Bear with me. Hopefully I will be back in the New Year fighting fit. (4)

Protest against the racist Geert Wilders in Sydney today

In response to the proposed speaking tour of notable racist and far right Dutch politician, Geert Wilders, a group of anti-racist campaigners have initiated plans to protest his February 2013 visit to Sydney. He is speaking at the Roma Function Centre, 167 Northumberland St, Liverpool at 7 pm tonight (Friday 22 February). The protest against this racist is there from 6 pm to 8 pm.

A group will be meeting at Redfern at 4.40pm to get the 4.50pm train to Liverpool to be there right at the start. But we will aim to keep the protest going until Wilders’ speech starts at 7pm at least so if you can only come later you won’t miss it.

Wilders is the founder and leader of the Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV), and campaigns against what he calls the “Islamisation of the Netherlands”.

Wilders will be using this visit to spread his message of hate and intolerance. His views on immigration and Islam, including ending all immigration from Muslim countries and a 1000 euro licence to wear the hijab (which he called a “rag head tax”), contribute to the hysterical anti-Muslim climate generated by the War on Terror.

Politicians and the mainstream media have promoted both Islamophobia and wider xenophobic attitudes. They will inevitably give Geert Wilders saturation coverage when he arrives, helping to legitimise his abhorrent ideas.

We believe there needs to be a large, broadly-based show of opposition to Geert Wilders through a peaceful protest outside his meeting in Sydney. This is one of the few ways to ensure that he does not go unchallenged, and will make it harder for the media and right-wing figures to pretend he is raising issues that are in any way legitimate.

We have a responsibility to see that Wilders’ views do not pass unchallenged. Public protests make it clear that anti-racists will have our views heard. We ask all anti-racists to support and attend protests wherever he is organised to appear.

Roma Function Centre, 167 Northumberland St, Liverpool 18:00 to 20:00 today, Friday 2 February. See Protest Geert Wilders’ visit to Sydney: No to Islamophobia, No to Racist Hate

Slight correction: I think you will find that whatever anti-Muslim climate exists is due to the 9/11 attacks, Bali, Madrid, London and the continuing terrorism in Muslim countries, FOLLOWED BY “the hysterical anti-Muslim climate generated by the War on Terror.” The War on Terror had its genesis in violence.

Leave him alone, he has as much right to speak his mind as you do with all the rubbish you put out.
