Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Plibersek dumps principles, continuing Labor’s fine tradition

From the normally execrable Cut&Paste in The Australian on Monday 13 January.

‘Opposition foreign affairs spokesperson Tanya Plibersek, [and deputy Labor Party leader] the other day:

‘ARIEL Sharon embodied fearless leadership through trying times and spent his life serving Israel and its people. In his final years as prime minister, Sharon made great strides in the Israel-Palestine peace process, representing a courageous shift in his politics in favour of a two-state solution.

‘Plibersek, 2002:

‘I CAN think of a rogue state which consistently ignores UN resolutions whose ruler is a war criminal – it is called Israel and the war criminal is Ariel Sharon.’

A couple of years as a senior Labor Minister and now as Opposition spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and deputy leader of the Labor Party sees Plibersek keep to the grand ALP tradition of abandoning principle.

Very apt insight John. It’s a shame a large cross section of journalism in Australia today avoids pointing out the inconsistencies and hypocrisies that are embodied in today’s Labor.

Dear John,
Unfortunately on this occasion I couldn’t agree with you less !! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and indeed we indulge yours very often. Tanya Plibersek is as entitled as you are – without your attempt to include the entire ALP.

Yes Lea, I should have made it clearer I was referring to the various Parliamentary Labor Party members.

Lea, Pilbersek is towing the ALP line, otherwise her career in the ALP would be cut short rather quickly. Clearly, she has made the decision to tow the party line and not rock the ALP boat. It is about as obvious as the sky is blue, John is right on the money.
