Their bullies

While boycott campaigns might work for a while, in the long run they don’t challenge the system that produces Jones and his ilk across Australian radio.

We’d be more effective in the long run arguing and agitating for the politics that could overthrow the rotten system that breeds the Alan Jones of the world.

Will an Alan Jones boycott work?

It is only by having a vision of a better world for women and, indeed, for all of us, and fighting for it through the power of the working class, the one force capable of delivering it, can the likes of Alan Jones be sent to the sea in the chaff bag of history.

Alan Jones, beheading and respectable opinion

In response to a listener’s criticism of Gillard, Jones replied “Yeah, that’s it. Bring back the guillotine”. Yes, Jones called for the PM to be beheaded. The police didn’t carry out dawn raids or turn up to the studio with dogs and capsicum spray. A couple of placards about beheading that were held at the Sydney Muslim protest on 15 September did not get the same mild reception. Jones was a leading figure in the racist chorus that followed.

It’s time for unions to move against Alan Jones

Unions NSW could immediately ban all work and supplies to 2GB until Jones is sacked. It could ban all goods and services to all of Jones’s advertisers until they abandon 2GB. Individual unions could do the same. Workers at 2GB could walk off the job until Jones is sacked. Such actions would of course be illegal under Labor’s industrial laws. But it would be the right thing to do.

Shove Alan Jones in a chaff bag

If you want to know what an Abbott government will be like on economic policy, look at Campbell Newman. If you want to know what it will be like on social policy look at Alan Jones.
