Archive for 'Anthony Albanese'

Albanese as Corbyn?

The ALP is no longer a party of social democracy. It has moved from being a capitalist workers’ party to being a CAPITALIST workers’ party on the way to becoming a capitalist party. The time has come to stop looking for saviours within. No amount of CPR is going to revive the moribund Australian Labor Party.

Paul Keating savages the Greens, with a feather

Jim Casey may or may not win Grayndler from potential Labor Party leader Anthony Albanese in this election. It is however pretty clear that the Greens will not go away and the reason for that is that the ALP is now so right wing and so pro-market and pro-capital in government that some of its previous supporters are shifting and have shifted to what they perceive as a progressive alternative. No amount of abuse from the likes of Keating is going to change that. To win labour votes the ALP should have labour policies.

Me in New Matilda on Anthony Albanese, the left, unelectability and the neoliberal Australian Labor Party

This is an article by me in New Matilda on Anthony Albanese, the left, unelectability and the neoliberal Australian Labor Party. ‘The common media narrative on the ‘left’ of the Labor Party is that its leaders, like Anthony Albanese, are unelectable. John Passant disagrees, both about the electability, and the ‘left’.’ To read the article click here.

Labor green with envy over Whitlam

If Labor hacks like Albanese were serious about reclaiming Whitlam’s legacy they’d abolish university fees and loans, make universal health care a reality, abolish the gender pay gap, oppose the war in Iraq, legalise same sex marriage and take visionary action to address climate change. They’d welcome refugees, stop the Northern Territory Intervention and basics card, announce a royal commission into deaths in custody and begin negotiations with Aboriginal peoples to recognise sovereignty and pay the rent. They’d abolish restrictions on unions and the right to trike. That is just for starters.

The crocodile tears from these Labor Party hypocrites is cover for their neoliberalism. In honouring Whitlam they dishonour the reforms working people forced Gough to introduce.

Shorten to lead Labor; neoliberalism is safe whoever is in charge

This vote for the leadership of the Australian Labor Party was a stage managed political fashion parade. Members got to vote on which model of neoliberalism they preferred. The models often held hands as they strutted the catwalk mouthing the same platitudes. Not policies, note, but platitudes.

Albo and Shorten: the hollow men

What a choice Labor Party members have! It’s a choice between a Labor hack in previous Labor governments, governments which cut single parent payments, demonised refugees, continued the Northern Territory intervention and the war in Afghanistan, oversaw an historic the shift in wealth to the ruling class and increased the gender pay gap and a Labor hack in previous Labor governments, governments which cut single parent payments, demonised refugees, continued the Northern Territory intervention and the war in Afghanistan, oversaw the historic shift in wealth to the ruling class and increased the gender pay gap.

Labor politicians – capital’s good friend

It is not ALP members who are divorced from the concerns of ordinary Australians – it is Labor politicians.

The majority of the population are well to the left of both of the major parties of neoliberalism.
