Archive for 'Bust the Budget'

Where to now for ‘Bust the Budget’?

Such has been the success from the bosses’ point of view of the class collaboration of the union leadership and movement over the last 30 years that, by and large, most unionists and concerned community members will not even think about taking control of their unions and the protests to bust the budget with strikes, let alone try to do it.

Until such ┬átime as we do that we will be in a downward cycle of defeat and despair and the alternating puppet show of neoliberal Labor and the neoliberal Coalition in government, aided by the neoliberal Greens. If we don’t fight we lose, now and into the future.

Why the attacks on the disabled, pensioners, the low paid, the unemployed, students, the sick, Aborigines…?

The attacks on the poor, the low paid, the disabled, the unemployed, pensioners, students, Aborigines and others are a class issue which requires a class response. That is why I say the best way to stop the bosses’ budget is to stop work. Bust the budget rallies are being held across Australia this coming Sunday, 6 July. Make them the first step in stopping Abbott attacking us and to send a warning to Labor to abandon its attacks on us when it is in government.

Busting the Budget in Melbourne – where to now?

Their side is serious and on the attack. It is time our side got serious too. We won’t beat back these attacks by one-off rallies or even stopworks of a few hours. The way to beat this bosses’ Budget is to stop work until the government capitulates or falls.

Build a union fightback against the Budget for 12 June and beyond

The most impressive one-day rally, even backed by strike action, will not be enough to stop the Liberals. Only a sustained campaign of protests and strikes can do that. But the biggest possible turnouts to the 12 June events, and a big turnout to the union protests called for Melbourne and Sydney (and hopefully other cities) on Sunday 6 July would be important steps, showing that our side is serious about a fight.

Labor is not the answer

The last 30 years have not been a battle between two different political ideologies but a Mafia family dispute over how best to rob the rest of us for the benefit of the whole gang. That is one of the reasons why calls for an election now, especially one solely brought about by parliamentary game playing, are misguided. Replacing one set of neoliberal politicians with another set won’t address the problems or the systemic drivers forcing the parliamentary cretins to manage society in the interests of capital. The mafia dons of Labor are still mafia dons.
