Sanders’ New Hampshire victory shows establishment politics in the US is cracking up

Charlie Kimber in Socialist Worker UK looks at the rise of self-proclaimed socialist Bernie Sanders and argues that ‘the old politics is under extreme strain, and millions of people are looking for an alternative.’ However Sanders is not that alternative because ‘he is prepared to stay within the limits of the thoroughly capitalist Democratic Party.’

From the Labor Party to the Australian version of the US Democrats?

The question of Labor linking or not linking to the trade union bureaucracy is the wrong one. The real question is how to build a workers’ party committed to socialist revolution. Obama and Romney: the one percent’s choice

The US Presidential election is a choice between two representatives of big business. Romney offers a shit sandwich. Obama asks if you want fries with it. The task is to fight the one percent and build an alternative. Occupy gave us a glimpse of the possibilities. Winning the immediate fight and building that alternative, as Occupy and now the Chicago teachers’ strike shows, can only be done on the streets and in the workplaces, through demonstrations and strikes.
