How Labor let the bastards in

Labor lost because for six years it ruled, just like the Liberals before it, for the big end of town and did nothing to advance the interests of its working class supporters.

Fighting back against Abbott’s agenda

The spin from Labor is that disunity cost them the election. This is fantasy land stuff. If only they had all united behind rabid neoliberalism then Labor would still be in power. Yeah, right. I have a bridge in Sydney to sell you too.

The disunity theme means that the real reasons – Labor’s massive shift to the right economically and socially over the last 3 decades and the collapse of class struggle over that period – can be and will be ignored by the neoliberals who are the ALP.

There is an alternative. Its name is struggle.

A choice beyond the no choice election: fight back

Voting is not the most important thing. The choice for election 2013 is about whether we want to be stabbed in the back again by the ALP or punched in the face by the Liberals.

More important than the election outcome will be the extent to which people can mobilise to resist any and every cutback in the coming years. No matter who wins, we can’t just sit and wait for the next attack.

We have to organise now on campuses, among the rank and file in workplaces and in the few campaigns that exist.

If our side continues to avoid the fight, we will continue to lose. There is nothing clever about that.

How did politics get this low?

If election 2013 tells us one thing, it is that it is far past time to build a political movement that can challenge the monstrous lie that the choice between Abbott and Rudd is the only choice we have.

The decline and fall of the Labor Party?

A shit sandwich is still a shit sandwich no matter whether it is Gillard or Rudd trying to sell it to us. Of course Abbott is not pointing out the obvious – that he too is offering us a shit sandwich. It is just that his shit sandwich is horse shit, not cow poo.

The Australian election – no class, no working class

I watched the ‘debate’ between the two factions of neoliberalism on Sunday night. Clearly Kevin Rudd is a better snake oil salesman than Tony Abbott. The debate was as to who could better operate on the body of Australian capitalism – Labor with its rusty, blunt scalpel or the Liberals with their meat axe.

The alternative to Labor and the Liberals is struggle, class struggle.

You little Beattie

Peter Beattie is just another rotten right-wing neoliberal Labor Party politician. His return to haunt the working class in Forde is a metaphor for Labor today.

Trust them – to screw us

There is one thing certain to come out of the 2013 federal election writes Ben Hillier in Socialist Alternative. The contest will be won by a right wing pro-big business party intent on attacking workers and the poor.
