Equal Pay 1972

The gender pay gap is over 17% – isn’t it time for unions to fight?

The message seems pretty clear. If you don’t fight you lose. It’s way past time for unions to launch an industrial campaign to end the gender pay gap. Unions?

Given the sorry state of most unions in Australia today, it is now time for rank and file unionists to launch an industrial campaign to end the gender pay gap.

The gender pay gap – an update

An argument has broken out about the graduate gender pay gap. It misses the real point. The gender pay gap for all women, graduates or not, is systemic, and can only be overcome by militant industrial action.

Labor’s low pay agenda for women

A militant industrial response from workers and their unions to the systemic gender pay gap has the best chance of improving the lives of women at work. That is a fight that must of necessity take on the ALP for whom the bosses and their profits are more important than equal pay. The first step in that process must be for workers in low paid and traditional gender stereotype industries to organise to smash the glass ceiling of low and unequal wages.

Don’t be too polite girls, don’t be too polite

Today’s International Women’s Day has been stolen from the working class by bourgeois and middle class women and big business, celebrating the opportunity of women to become bosses and lord it over working class women.

The failure to organise a militant fight for equal pay has consigned many women to being second class pay citizens. Join the IWD marches on Saturday 12 March across Australia for equal pay.

It’s time for a real strike campaign for equal pay. Close down the community sector.

Equal pay: don’t believe Labor’s lies

The best way to win equal pay for equal work and to keep and expand jobs in the community sector is to strike.

Free speech, equal pay and equal love: Gillard Labor opposes them all

On 3 basic issues, equal pay, equal love and transparency in government, Labor stands opposed to the progressive and democratic position.

Equal pay: Julia Gillard ‘offended’

Why not tax the rich to pay for wage justice for women? Why not use some Defence money to fund the pay increase? Perhaps the Labor Government could withdraw from Afghanistan and use the $2 billion saved by doing that to pay for wage justice for women workers.

But Gillard won’t do any of that. She’ll cut back on services to the poor and working class. If we let her.

Her allegiance is to her class – the bourgeoisie. That’s why she chooses war over working women.

Equal pay: Labor is the enemy

Clearly Labor is the enemy of working women. The Gillard Government’s decision to oppose the Australian Services Union test case before Fair Work Australia for equal pay in the community and social services sector on budgetary grounds gives the lie to Labor being the friend of working women. Julia Gillard’s contempt for ordinary women poses the question – […]

Gillard’s gender pay gap

Evidently Julia Gillard has the interests of working people and retirees at heart.  So I ask her to explain her role as Employment and Workplace Relations Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for almost 3 years in addressing the gender pay gap? Under Labor it actually increased to 18.2%. So apart from platitudes, what will Prime Minister […]
