Archive for 'Genocide'
Yochanan Gordon was just being honest in his op-ed in the online Times of Israel asking if the genocide of the Palestinians would be acceptable to secure stability and security for Israel. This is the meaning of the apartheid Israeli state – stability and security for such a state requires genocide.
I wrote this in 2010 in response to Jeremy Jones’ attack on me for writing the article ‘The Warsaw Ghetto uprising – it is right to resist’ (an article I republished the other day in light of the invasion of Gaza as A lesson from the Warsaw Ghetto – it is right to resist). This slightly edited repost is still relevant today as the Zionists shout anti-Semite at anyone who opposes the Israeli genocide of Palestinians.
The slow genocide in Palestine, like that in Australia and the US, aims to push back the original inhabitants and steal their land over a long period of time.
The genocidal success to date of Zionism is remarkable, and the invasion of the concentration camp that is Gaza these last few days is but the latest step in the 66 year program of genocide against the Palestinians.
To save lives at home we need to unite not with the Australian government in grief but against it in anger.
On the basis of the officially-accepted definition of genocide there is no doubt that the horrors inflicted on the Palestinian people qualify as genocide. So there is no reason why socialists should hold back from using the term genocide to describe what is happening to the Palestinians.

ANZAC Day, the supposed symbol and celebration of the ‘nation’ denies this most obvious truth – Australian society was founded on the genocide of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders and that genocide continues today. Let’s unite and fight to stop the brutal war against Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders now.
Australia Day perpetuates the country’s ‘founding’ racist myths and is part of the system that enslaves our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters and as a consequence, all of us here. It is Invasion Day. In the spirit of true reconciliation let’s abolish this celebration of genocide. Let’s instead celebrate the 65000 years of indigenous history and stewardship of this land. Recognise Aboriginal sovereignty, negotiate a treaty and pay the rent. It is time to fight for justice.
When Tony Abbott says Australia is open for business what he means is that Australian profits built on the bones of dead West Papuans are OK by him.
