Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

The plot sickens: the public sector union and affiliation to Labor

Stephen Jones is the head honcho in the Community and Public Sector Union.  That union is in the process of affiliating to the Labor Party on a state and territory basis.

The leadership decided on this without talking to the membership. This is not atypical since for most union leaders these days members are an add-on whose role is to accept sackings and crap wages and most of all to shut up and just pay their dues.

Affiliating to the party that is your boss in Government takes class collaboration to new lows.

But it gets worse. Comrade Stephen has, according to a report in today’s Canberra Times, been lining himself up for Jennie George’s Federal seat of Throsby.

That information comes from a Labor Minister intent on mischief making. The report also says it’s a done deal. (See James Massola ‘CPSU chief tipped to run’ The Canberra Times 21 March page 11.  When or if it goes online I’ll put in a link).

Jones didn’t tell his membership about this when he stood for re-election 3 months ago, just as he didn’t campaign on affiliation to the ALP during that re-election campaign.

And the really disgusting thing is that to make himself safe for a seat in the eyes of the ALP he has to manage (that is oversee and implement) the Government culling thousands of jobs in the the public service.

His personal ambition – to be another union seat warmer for Rudd – reinforces his do nothing approach to the Government’s attack on the pubic servants.

It explains the dilemma he is in – to appear to be doing something to defend jobs while accepting Rudd’s dextering.

Hence his useless advertisement campaign about the worth of public service jobs.

Public servants perform an array of valuable and important functions.  But, as Jones knows, meek advertisements are not going to stop the Government that Comrade Stephen hopes to join from taking a meat axe to the public service.

180 jobs to go from the ABS.  200 from Geoscience Australia.  800 from Immigration.  Possibly 3000 or more from the ATO.  Who knows how many from Medicare?

Jones has done nothing, absolutely nothing, to stop Labor’s jobs slaughter. Instead he wants to join the butchers.

CPSU members need to organise independently of Kevin Rudd’s agents in their union leadership to defend their jobs.

I was a CPSU (or equivalent) member all the time I was in the public service.
