Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Stephen Jones: another Labor lapdog to join the Parliamentary gravy train?

I have just been reading in the Illawarra Mercury in Maccas at Fairy Meadow – they do great soy chai lattes, seriously – about Jennie George retiring from Parliament at the 2010 election.

My esteemed union leader, Stephen Jones from the Community and Public Sector Union, is the hot tip for the position. The national executive will parachute him in against the wishes of the rank and file Labor members in Throsby.

I touched on this about 8 months ago in an article on my blog attacking Jones’ role in affiliating my union to the ALP.

Comrade Stephen is evidently part of the ‘hard left’ faction of the ALP.

Given his role in affiliating my union to the ALP, (to bolster his faction’s vote, not to influence Labor in power at all), and his acquiescence in every Government attack on our wages and conditions, the limp left sounds a more appropriate description.  A reward for services rendered presumably.

It’s time to reclaim my union – unionists for the union sounds like a good slogan to campaign on (among others) to rebuild and reinvigorate if we can rank and file organisation and activism.

Readers might like to look at my 21 March article predicting this outcome. It’s called  The plot sickens: the public sector union and affiliation to Labor.
