It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Elections, invasions, starvation, climate change; Saturday’s socialist speak out

This is not an election about nothing. It’s a choice between which version of neoliberalism – Liberal or Labor – will misgovern us for the next 3 years.  Both parties will rule in the interests of capital, at the expense of labour. Neither side is offering decisive action on climate change; both support the US military invasions in Afghanistan and Iraq; they will both further favour private education and private hospitals. And all thew while aboriginal kids are starving in the Northern Territory becuase we won’t give them control of their communities. 65 years ago the United States dropped an atomic bomb yet that threat remains and has multiplied and spread. How is it possible that in a country as rich as Australia we have to witness a whole human group going extinct, just so that a bunch of bastards get ever more money.

I hope there is no such a thing as a god of justice, because if there was, we’ll all be found wanting.
