Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Have your say – Saturday’s socialist speak out

There’s an election on in Victoria. The latest polling gives the Liberals a good chance of winning. The neoliberal Labor Party is making the neoliberal Liberal Party look good. The question for me is how will the Greens go?

Other than that the battle between US and Chinese imperialism is hotting up over Korea, with both sides rattling sabres through their proxy states, and in the case of the Americans, sending more warships to the region. This appears to be the next ‘up the ante’ stage in the US strategy of political and geographic containment of China, of which the invasion of Afghanistan was and is part.

In Federal politics in Australia, Parliament has finished for the year with the bill to split up Telstra passing. This lays the groundwork (pun intended) for the National Broadband Network, which the Opposition conservatives are complaining hasn’t had a proper cost benefit analysis.

Unionist Ark Tribe had charges against him for refusing to attend a compulsory meeting with the Australian Building and Construction Commission, also known as Gillard’s Gestapo, dismissed. The laws however remain, and the next time the ABCC will get the procedure right, meaning workers could well be jailed under a Labor Government for taking industrial action. And they wonder why people are voting for the Greens.

Meanwhile, across Europe class struggle is breaking out in various forms. Future workers (students) in Britain, have discovered that to have an education they need to fight for it now.  Students in Rome occupied the Parliament. A general strike closed down Portugal.

The vultures of the financial markets, having forced Ireland to take an EU bailout, and destroying its social services spending, are now eyeing off Portugal, Spain and perhaps even Italy.

Why would you care how the Greens go ?- since you argue they are just another bourgois liberal party
– and elections to parliaments are irrelveant to the real struggle for socialism …

Geoff, to see the extent of the movement in people’s consciousness from Laborism to the Greens and to try to understand why it is happening. And how we on the left can relate to that, if we can.

The Liberals putting Greens last in their preferences may well shut the Greens out. Just another example of how undemocratic our voting system is. In my seat, if it goes to preferences Labor may well lose but an apolitical independent will probably get in with Liberal and Green preferences.

European protests are the other interesting thing. To have such massive student protests hit the backwater of the UK is magnificent. Of course the left over there is terminally split, even worse than Australia, so who knows what will happen. Maybe they will bypass the fuddy duddy old left and do something really interesting! I just hope that for once Australian students and young people notice and follow suit. But I’m not holding my breath!

Chomsky says in an interview with the New Statesman:

‘In the US, there is basically one party – the business party. It has two factions, called Democrats and Republicans, which are somewhat different but carry out variations on the same policies. By and large, I am opposed to those policies. As is most of the population.’

Can we say the same in Australia? The Labor party is not the same as the Democrats. Or is it now?

Naom Chomski also says the the occupation of Afghanistan is totally illegal and immoral but stops short of blaming the US Govt for the 911 false flag attack.

Sat 11th Dec 11 am there will be a 911 truth protest at Sydney Town Hall. The truth movement is also and anti- war movement.

Arjay, this article is about the Victorian election, not a place for fruit loop conspiracy theories. Honestly mate, how can you sprout this rubbish?

Let me ask you this (if Mr Passant will allow his forum to be used in this way). How do you know these ‘facts’ about 9/11? Do they come from second hand sources, such as the internet, articles you have read and documentaries you have seen?

One of the things about conspiracy theories is that people who swear by them were almost always never there. Like the assissination of JFK, it is often young people in foreign countries who claim to ‘know’ what happened on 22 November 1963. Or why Elvis is still alive. They always know the truth about events in which they have no direct knowledge of.

What I’d like you to answer for me is why al-Qaeda keeps claiming responsibility for an attack you say it didn’t commit? Why were the same people involved in the attack on the USS Cole and the first attempt on the WTC – or is that lies too? Why did Mohammad Atta confessed to his part in the 9/11 attack? What was Nawaf al-Hamzi, Khaled al-Mihdhar, and others doing on those ill fated flights? Maybe talking with the real Zionists who are responsible??

And is the 9/11 conspiracy also linked to the London and Madrid bombings – or is that the work of US-Zionists too?

Poor al-Qaeda. They must be so desperate for attention that they claimed responsibilty for the worst act of terror since WWII when they were just innocent folk living in cave minding their own business!

Just keep calling us names Walter.I made no mention of Zionist plots.Your guilt slip is showing Walter.Do you really think that George Bush ,Rumsfeld and Cheney are innocent and now you of all people are blaming poor Israel !

Walter we need to blame Iran and North Korea so we can all have a really big Fourth of July in 2012.

Walter also questions my sources.Walter I’ve walked the streets with Richard Gage of for many hours around Sydney last year.I’ve met and talked at lenght with Prof Steven Jones and Prof Niels Harritt,Dr Frank Legge ,Luke Rudowski of ‘We are Change’ and many others. The scientific circumstancial, forensic proof is irrefutible.
I unlike you Walter, have done serious research and investigation.

Only the little secrets need be hidden, since the really big ones are hidden by your incredulity, Walter.

Time November 28, 2010 at 9:46 am

Arjay, let me get this right. You’ve walked the streets of Sydney so you know that those planes didn’t fly into the WTC, as per the website you refer to? The people of Sydney, as opposed to those who witnessed the event in New York and Washington, know more? All those films, photos, survivors, witnesses – they’re part of the conspiracy too?

As Robert McNamara once said about conspiracy theroies, the USA isn’t that smart.
And this webiste, which sites many ‘news’ items from FOX news (!) claims that it wasn’t airplanes which brought the Towers down … Is that waht the good people of Syndey tell you? I presume you’ve been to New York ask asked the people there.

And excuse me being a pedant, but you cannot have “scientific circumstantial” evidence!! In law, these mean very different things.

But you still did not answer my question. Why did/do al-Qaeda claim resposnbility for this ‘conspiracy’ when it wasn’t them? Why did/do they claim responsibility for the London and Madrid attacks? Why did bin Laden send video messages saying he was responsible and more is to come? Is he a liar, a practical joker, what? And why, given that al-Qaeda is apparently not responsible, and given that the USA, Aust etc are bombing the crap out of Afghanistan, doesn’t he tell the truth so that we know he, al-Qaeda and the Taliban are inncoent?

Are you seriously suggesting they welcome the deaths of thousands of their own people? Now there’s a terrific conspiracy – bin Laden and co are innocent but actually want to be attacked and thousands killed to show how awful the US imperialists really are.

In law, one must prove beyond a reasonable doubt before a conviction is upheld. The best you can come up with is second hand referals to a website of dubious origin and you claim this as fact. In a court, this is hearsay. You have no direct evidence, no data or research of your own, you weren’t a witness, hell, you don’t even live in the country these events occured.

Who gives a toss what some people walking down a street 10,000 kms away think!

Actually, Walter –
JFK was abducted by Elvis and lived in bliss with him at Gracelands until a jealous Ron Reagan had the CIA pick them both up in one of those fire-fighting aircraft.
You’ve heard of those charred bodies found after the forest fire wearing aqualungs, wetsuits’n flippers?
That’s them.
The bit never told is that the wetsuits were green – charred, yes, but green.

Which is pretty much how the Greens look in Vic today.

John –
Your comparison between the Republicans/Democrats and our ‘major parties’ seems to sum it up.
More to the point the stuff they’re both sprouting bears as much resemblance to the truth as my little foray about JFK and Elvis above.

Social services spending in Oz will go the way of Europe in about a year. That’s why Abbott was so conciliatory with Jooles the other day.

The hung parliament and opportunity for reform is obviously being ‘managed’ by that team while I’m sure that they can run up a fair few pre-recorded episodes of “Question Time” at their leisure during the extended Xmas break.

Walter yo have not viewed the scientific reality. How about a bet Walter. If you can disprove the scientific facts on then I’ll pay you $10,000 but if you lose, you must donate $10,000 to Architects and Engineers for 911 truth. So go to this site and begin. You will have to disprove the impossiblity of the physics of freefall and the nano thermite paper by Prof Neils Harritt.Plus the impossibility of jet fuel melting steel

Comment from Walter
Time December 1, 2010 at 9:42 am

Sorry Arjay but this just makes no sense at all and is rather silly on your part. You want to bet money that I cannot disprove a website full of dubious claims and if I can’t then ipso facto, you are right?

This is both illogical and offensive. It’s like saying, I’ll bet you $10,000 that Chicago mobsters killed JFK – now you disprove that.

First, I do not believe ‘evidence’ from a website, especially one quoting FOX news. Material can be doctored, evidence misrepresented, bona fides unquestioned. That is why we have ‘Commissions of Inquiry’, such as the 9/11 Commission. I am only guessing that you have not read it – well I have. All 3000 plus pages! And a couple of dodgy fruitloops who post theories on a website just dosn’t cut the mustard.

Your last claim shows how ignorance is perpetrated. You read something that says jet fuel doesn’t melt steel – too right it doesn’t, as the 9/11 Commission pointed out. What it can do is melt the protective coating on the steel girders used (in the 1970s) on the WTC. The melted coating allowed the steel girders to bend, which actually pulled the buildings inwards. The floors did not collapse as is widely believed, rather the girders buckled and then the building was brought down. And, although I am wasting my time with you, the tests on steel melting were never conducted using a large plane FULL of avgas and the like. The tests were conducted when the WTC was built (30 years ago) and as the 9/11 Report clearly states, the buildings were never meant to withstand a plane full of explosive liquid – no building is.

Why don’t you come back when you’re actually read the 9/11 Commission report – or are you one of those conspiracy theorists who disbelieve anything American, anything official, anything authoritative – just dismiss it because you know more?

It would help too if you could outline your qualifications in this area. What experience you have in terrorist related fields, have you been to ground Zero yourslef and seen Building 7 and the WTC? (I have). Have you spoken to eye-witnesses who saw the buildings collapse (I have), have you ever spoken to people in the intelligence community and heard what they know (I have).

Hey, I’m sure Elvis, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain have something to do with the disappearance of Azaria Chamberlain … i read it on a website …

On a different topic (one discussed months ago on the sat socialist speakout) i noticed today that the Factory Workers Confederation recently put out a statement about a strike by some of its members. It contained this interesting line in it “Esta establecido que en la lucha salarial de abril y mayo los obreros de la cerveza han sido de los pocos que acataron el paro productivo de 24 horas lanzado por la C.G.T.F.B..”
Translation “It was shown that in the wage struggle of april and may, thew brewery workers were one of the FEW who participated in the 24 hour strike called by the CGTFB” (emphasis added)

So unlike those who from a far saw a massive wave of indefinite strikes, the actual unions that organised the protest say only “a few” participated in the at best 24 hour strike. No doubt this will mean nothing for sectarians, for whom facts are just pedantic nonsense that get in the way of a good dogma
