Have your say: Summer days’ socialist rave

It is the holiday season, with the aspirations of billions for peace and love coming up hard against the reality of a society of war and hate. This is systemic. No amount of wishing or praying for something is going to make it happen.

A mass movement of the majority of the class that produces the wealth for a new society opens up the possibility for humanity of peace. That can only occur with a party of the revolutionary section of the working class built over time before the situation ripens. Join we socialists in building that party now.

Wikileaks continues to reveal that our rulers are liars. Australian police and troops in Afghanistan are part of a new operation phoenix – killing village leaders who might be sympathetic to the resistance. (Operation Phoenix was the name given to the killing of village leaders sympathetic to the nationalist resistance by Australian special forces in Vietnam.)

The Americans continue to occupy Afghanistan, and kill innocents most obviously every day there and in Pakistan. The puppet Government in Iraq can’t figure out who is the puppet master. Israel genocide against Palestinians continues unabated, with wholehearted US support. China’s dictatorship brutally represses its working class and peasantry.  Obama continues the Bush agenda and rules for the rich. US unemployment is stuck at just below ten percent.

In Australia the Gillard Labor Government continues to do what it is best at – nothing. Or rather running capitalism for sectional interests like Murdoch, the big polluters and the miners.

All the while the environmental crisis of capitalism gathers pace and more people are starving now than ever.

Well said John, only one comment. According to Noam Chomsky, real unemployment in the USA is closer to 20% than 10%.

Next year we have to stop the facists form expanding the wars into Iran or North Korea. No country on the planet currently can challenge the USA/ Israel alliance militarily. So all this sabre rattling about pissy little poor countries being a threat to us is pure BS.The USA accounts for 50% of the total world budget on arms.No wonder their people are now so poor.

Poor Americans. Their measly minimum wage 9in one state) is going up to $8.15 per hr.

So for 38 hrs, they just scrape $300. Try living on that year-in, year-out.

Notice how US ideologues troll-out the usual, increase wages costs jobs, line. But if you look closely you find that the job losses are miniscule compared to a pay hike. In fact a 10% pay rise only gives a vague job loss of between 2 and 4%.

But this is only the first effect. When the extra pay gets into the economy, no doubt, new jobs will be created. But our capitalists don’t explore the issue this far.
