Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Turkey’s workers begin to move against repression

Reports from Reuters and CNN suggest that workers are threatening mass strikes against the Turkish regime and its repression. For example Reuters is reporting:

(Reuters) – Turkey’s Public Workers Unions Confederation (KESK) said on Monday it would hold a “warning strike” on June 4-5 to protest at a crackdown on anti-government protests over the last four days.

“The state terror implemented against mass protests across the country … has shown once again the enmity to democracy of the AKP government,” said a statement from the leftist confederation KESK, which has some 240,000 members in 11 unions.

And this unverified report from CNN which includes:

Turkey’s major trade unions, including The Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DISK), The Confederation of Public Workers’ Unions (KESK), and the Education and Science Workers’ Union (E─čitim-Sen) are meeting early today after soaring call for general strike to give weight to anti-government protests across Turkey, which were sparked by a brutal police crackdown on a peaceful sit-in in Istanbul’s Gezi Park on May 30, 2013.
