Time for a House Un-Australian Activities Committee?
Tony Abbott thinks the Australian Broadcasting Corporation is Un-Australian. I am looking forward to his government setting up the House Un-Australian Activities Committee. (1)

Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Former Labor Chief Minister Jon Stanhope to speak out against Australia’s refugee disgrace

This Wednesday Jon Stanhope is speaking out against Australia’s refugee disgrace at 6:30pm in the Manning Clark Centre at the ANU.

Mr Stanhope recently called on Labor politicians to repudiate their party’s support for punitive refugee policies, saying: “I challenge any senior members of Shadow Cabinet such as Tanya Plibersek, Anthony Albanese and Andrew Leigh to look me in the eye and tell me that these policies reflect what the Labor Party stands for.”

Mr Stanhope is the former Labor Chief Minister of the ACT, and has recently returned from Christmas Island – where the majority of asylum-seekers arriving in Australia land – after serving as the Administrator of Australia’s Indian Ocean Territories. Refreshments and an opportunity to discuss the issues will be provided after the meeting.

How many refugees should Australia admit each year?

As many as want to come. Set up processing in Malaysia and Indonesia or fly the 110,000 here for processing.

Just what we need 110,000 more on the dole then they bring there relatives.

Think of all the housing and construction, farming and other jobs created. The Vietnamese boat people and the orderly departure program that it led to saw the up to 100,000 Vietnamese who came here and their children help create a better Australia, including more jobs.

All refugees should be settled in Canberra. I’m sure the enlightened people there would have objection to it.

Ho hum. Any chance of an intelligent comment or are you just going to defend this disgraceful anti-human policy? I doubt it. I have an idea. Why don’t you turn up to hear Stanhope?

What is Stanhope going to say that hasn’t been said before?

We are racist, we should be ashamed, we should have open borders and abolish visas and passports.
