Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

The one percent will soon own more than the rest of us

According to Oxfam:

The combined wealth of the richest 1 percent will overtake that of the other 99 percent of people next year unless the current trend of rising inequality is checked, Oxfam warned today ahead of the annual World Economic Forum meeting in Davos.

This is the logic of capitalism. It is irreformable. Revolution anyone?

Ok, before we blame the rich, have a look on you tube “world poverty and gumballs 2010” this explains the problem we have and no amount of relocating refugees is going to change the fact.

Capitalism in its simplest form is like the game of monopoly, after a few hours of playing two are broke, one is struggling and one owns most of the board.

If we every five minutes redistribute the wealth created so every player has the same, their is no progress.

So, in the real world, where would be the incentive for Doctors or drug companies to find cures? where would be the incentive for farmers to grow better crops? Where would be the incentive for private enterprise to build houses? The list is endless.

The wealthy (and if you live in Australia you are already in the top 5% of the world) have an incentive to keep creating a better life for society by making a profit.

Stop the profit and stop progress and we will see massive starvation and disease across the world.

We are overpopulated, if we didn’t control our environment, mother nature would have already killed of billions to put some equilibrium back on the planet.

Capitalism is not perfect, but it is a lot better than communism or socialism.

In Australia, there is nothing stopping you being in the top 1%, you just have to work for it.

Although I support Oxfam, a statement like this doesn’t work. it’s like time travel, great in theory but impossible.

Why don’t you give us a summary of your net worth.

I’m tipping your richer that most Australians.

Great comment. This is the great dilemma. Better to allow those who can to make the money, and introduce the innovations, to do so, but then have fair wealth redistribution programs to help support the poorer in society. Socialism completely removes incentive, hence the overall wealth and level of innovation reduces significantly. I mean, why work your guts out when others just sit there and wait for their freebie hand-outs? Laziness is the default situation for most people – plus you need a brutal police force to prevent the more entrepreneurial from exploiting the gaps, and a big wall to prevent the dissatisfied from escaping. There is a reason why the Soviet Bloc had to move to state capitalism, and eventually completely collapsed!

I thought you supported free speech. But you censor my comments that question your considerable personal wealth.

Not at all. I just think a suspicious right wing troll like you who investigates my wife is undeserving of publication. I will no longer publish your shit. That isn’t censorship. That is telling you to find somewhere else to sprout your sneaky privacy invading underhand and I suspect obsessed and clearly reactionary rubbish. Leave my wife alone and find somewhere else to troll.

well done John,
Fred does not deserve to be published if he has crossed the line. Always look forward to a discussion, but keep family out of it.
