Malcolm Fraser – a class enemy
Posted by John, March 20th, 2015 - under Malcolm Fraser, Ruling class.
I am a little older than most of my readers, I suspect. When I was standing outside Parliament House on 11 November 1975 (my 22nd birthday) I didn’t think Malcolm Fraser was a hero. I thought he was a bastard, a ruling class bastard. I still do and not just for riding roughshod over democracy. He then went on to cut health and education spending and tried to smash unions.

I don’t think Malcolm was the same person in 1975 as he was in in 2015.I too hated the bastard in 1975 but he did change. I was ready to go to Vietnam and Gough saved me. Malcolm did not understand the system which enslaved us all until decades later.
I served Malcolm his Johnny Walker Black Label neat at a Golf Club in Sydney in 1982.Some of the elite there were friendly, humble good people and some were miserable arseholes who could never have enough money and treated us workers like a lower life form.
In the end Malcolm became a really decent human being. How many ex PMs have resigned from their party in disgust of their moral fibre ?

Fraser helped ended white rule in South Africa.
He did more for land rights than Hawke ever did. He ended whaling in Australia and the union movement was never stronger than when he was defeated. Give him his due, this man did more for Australia than every left wing Marxist put together.
