Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

On retirements, renewal and cleaning out the Cabinet

On Saturday Adam Goodes announced he was retiring. On Sunday Joe Hockey followed suit.  We will miss Adam Goodes.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann and Treasurer Joe Hockey enjoy cigars outside The Treasury in Canberra.

Marise Payne is Australia’s first woman Defence Minister. I am not looking forward to the feminist nightmare – a ‘caring sharing’ capitalist killing machine, led by a woman, raining death on the women and children of Syria. If only we had more ruling class women in power eh?

Scott Morrison, the man who built his career as a Minister terrorising defenceless asylum seekers and refugees, will now as Treasurer extend his torture to Australia’s poor, old, sick, and working class.

Peter Dutton, the man who bought us border farce, continues in the role he took over from Morrison, of demonising asylum seekers, and locking them up in the concentration camps on Nauru and Manus Island.

Christopher Pyne, the man who failed spectacularly to de-regulate University fees but has massively cut school funding, is the Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science. Given his track record I look forward to innovative de-regulation, and science for sale. Industry, I am confident, will continue to receive its handouts.

Michaelia Cash, a woman, in a first for the Abbott-Turnbull duumvirate, is the Minister for Women. She is not a feminist.

Nigel Scullion, a white dude I have been told, remains Minister for screwing over Indigenous People.

Peter Hendy, the former head of one of the bosses’ unions, the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is the Assistant Minister for Productivity. Among other things the ACCI is about individual agreements, holding down wages and abolishing penalty rates. Be afraid.

The new Turnbull Cabinet is not about renewal. It is about giving a fresh face to the (bipartisan) neoliberal agenda of attacking workers and the poor. Clean the lot out.
