Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

The best photo of a pro-asylum seeker protest

Is this the best photo of a protest for asylum seekers?

The police manhandle Jill Sparrow and her son Manning (whom Jill is breast feeding) at an occupation of the Department of Immigration and Border ‘Protection’.

Jill Sparrow and her son Manning.

If this is how authorities treat Australian parents and their babies, imagine what happens behind closed doors to parents and kids in Australia’s gulags on Manus Island and Nauru.

You can see a twenty second video of the incident here.  Police laid no charges against the protesters.

Congratulations to Jill and all the other Friends, Families and Feminists against Detention for organising this and undertaking a bit of civil disobedience.

Here is a photo of some of them before being removed.

You can read more about this protest at New Matilda.

I think the mother is a sicko. A child of that age should not be breast feeding.

22 months?

I thought the child looked older than that, but I think it is normal to wean your child at 9 to 12 months at the latest.

At 22 months, my children were out of nappies, drinking from a cup and participating in a kindergarten class containing 5 year olds.

The mother was also smiling and laughing as the policemen manhandled her. I think the breastfeeding caper was probably staged to make the police seem like ruffians.
