Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Australia’s Grand Mufti is right

After the ISIS terrorist attacks in Paris the Grand Mufti of Australia put out a media release condemning the attacks.  He also made some relevant points about their cause. Here is a copy of what he said:

So the Grand Mufti condemned the terrorist attacks. His ‘crime’ was to point out the West’s role in creating the climate for these attacks.

The reactionaries, the likes of Independent Senator Jacqui Lambie and various Government Ministers, plus many more,  some of whom pay inordinate attention to this blog instead of being in their natural fascist play school of putridity,  have gone on the attack over the Mufti daring to point out the obvious.

Lambie called for a tracking device to be put on the Mufti.

Treasurer Scott Morrison said he was very disappointed with the Mufti. Well he would be wouldn’t he? The truth always disappoints those who create a panopticon of lies.

Western invasions, racism, Islamophobia, the curtailing of individual liberties, all are part of the explanation for this terrorist attack.  Invading Iraq and killing up to 1.5 m Iraqis was, as we pointed out in our demonstrations against the Iraq War in 2003, always going to produce a backlash. It has, and this mirror of Western barbarity called ISIS is now wreaking some destruction in the West, although its main victims remain Muslims in Iraq and Syria.

The politicians and others condemning the Mufti are the very people who lock innocent men, women and children, many of them fleeing the barbarity that is ISIS, in gulags on Manus Island and Nauru. or who support such action. These people have no moral high ground from which to lecture others about ‘civilisation’, justice, democracy, freedom and Western ‘values’.

This call for the Mufti to ‘properly condemn’ the terrorist attack in Paris when he has done so is part of the grand coalition of racism in Australia and the West. It is part of the attempts by the racist right to blame Muslims for the ISIS attacks.  These reactionaries hope in a climate of fear to build their brand of racism in Australia and win political support for their positions by tapping into the latent racism of a section of society.  The government is happy enough with these attacks because they too want to cement that racist right behind them and to divert attention away from the economic issues plaguing the country, the two most important being unemployment and poverty.

Far from being condemned, the Grand Mufti of Australia deserves our support for pointing out some of the Western drivers behind these terrorist attacks. More of the same – bombings, racism xenophobia, locking up people without evidence, closing the borders – will only strengthen support for ISIS.

While I agree with you about Muslims being victimised John, I don’t like their fascist religion which enslaves women.

Go to Saudi Arabia John and you’ll be decapitated as a heretic. Cognitive dissonance is your folly here.

What a stupid comment Ross. I oppose the dictators there. I support the Arab Spring and its deepening. Indeed it is the US who support the leadership there against the Saudi people. There was a pro-democracy movement of sorts in its Eastern province in support of their Shia brothers and sisters, the overwhelming majority in Bahrain, just across the waters. The US supported the dictatorship who put down that uprising.

I am not in denial about Islam Joe. What a stupid question, driven of course by racism and the need to vilify the ‘other’. 80 years ago you would have asked why I was in such denial about Jews. Some shit, different sandwich.

What you haven’t considered John is whether it was a false flag as some on the left have claimed.

I haven’t considered it because it is not a credible option. Just as 9/11 wasn’t a false flag, neither is this. Neither was the bombing of the Russian aeroplane.

Neither you nor the Mufti bothered
to mention the 800-pound kosher
gorilla – the apartheid regime of
I$rael run by notorious war criminals –
without whom there’d be neither
the 9/11 nor the Paris attacks.
Why such extreme timidity on
the part of such a progressive
Marxist-Leninist thinker such
as yourself?…

Because I don’t believe in conspiracy theories. If however your poorly expressed point is that Israel is part of the problem, then I agree. However the situation is more complicated than you suggest. The state of Israel is part of the general anger of the masses of Arab world with the West, and an example of their subjugation to imperialist interests in the region. However the reality is that Israel was not the direct or indirect cause of the Paris attacks. I suggest you read my articles on Israel instead of carping.
