I am not surprised
I think we are being unfair to this Abbott ‘no surprises’ Government. I am not surprised. (0)

Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

The Turnbull government’s war on welfare

(Image via greenleft.org.au)

There is nothing fair about the Turnbull Government’s pension cuts and Centrelink crackdowns, no matter how they spin it, I write¬†in Independent Australia.

Yes, I completely agree with this article. I used to work in Social Security some 30 years ago when the system was a toothless tiger. Now it is like a rampaging Tyrannosaurus Rex biting large chunks out of the backsides of frail elderly people, the sick and those desperately seeking work when none is available.

An inside contact within the Dept of Inhuman Services told me recently that Hank Jorgensen has deliberately lied on national television and that in actual fact, two-thirds of the people targetted are completely innocent victims of the PAYE system.

One friend was without work for 6 to 8 weeks because he was unable to access emergency prostate surgery after his urinary tract completely shut down. For months, he was fobbed off by GPs and told to take naturopathic treatments available from pharmacies.

Although he had Private Health Insurance, BUPA had at some time convinced him to drop his cover for urology.

As a result of his inability to access the public hospital system, he was treated briefly for a kidney infection and sent home with an in-dwelling catheter (high risk of infection!) and left like that for the best part of 2 months.

He was unable to work, and lost his place of living because he was forced to wait 4 weeks for a payment of Sickness Benefit.

Now to add insult to injury, the Dept of Inhuman Services (through T-Rex-link) has accused him of failing to declare income during the time he could do nothing at all.

Those affected need to front T-Rex-link with their pay slips, but I would also suggest that they write to their federal MP, the Prime Minister and Minister for Social Services to complain.

So to sum up, there are problems with:

. BUPA and other private health insurers
. accessing the public hospital system
. excessive waiting times destroying people’s health
. inhuman treatment by the money hungry dinosaur that is Centrelink
. access to the full-time work that would keep people from finishing up on the streets

For those who aren’t aware, Centrelink is also trying to get disability pensioners over age 60 out to work with a fairly pitiful, minimal, Income Test relaxation.
