Nauru: the horrific war on refugee women

With news coming through that Immigration Minister Peter Dutton today said that ‘the federal government would not be “blackmailed” into allowing pregnant asylum seekers at Nauru’s detention centre into Australia for medical treatment’, I revisited Ian Rintoul’s article on the war on refugee women on Nauru. Writing a week ago in the magazine of the revolutionary socialist organisation Solidarity, Ian says, among other things:

‘The shocking ABC 7.30 story highlighted just two rapes of Somali women. There are many more. Women freed to live in the community are now the victims of a reign of terror supported by the policies of the Australian and Nauruan governments. There were serious illusions that new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull would at least modify offshore processing—but the gloss is quickly wearing off… Nauru is not even a gilded cage—it is a house of horrors. Both Manus and Nauru must be closed.’

Her name is Nourkayas. She is a prisoner on Nauru

Her name is Nourkayas. She was a prisoner in ‪#‎Nauru‬ from the moment she was born. This is her punishment for being a Rohingyan refugee who should be protected not persecuted by ‪#‎Australia‬.

Nauru is hell

This article from the Saturday paper captures that reality. It says among other things: ‘One woman lies catatonic in hospital after being raped and beaten. Another was raped and immolated. This is the world awaiting refugees released from detention on Nauru.’ To read the whole article click here. Nauru rapes: ‘There is a war […]

From Australia’s concentration camps on Manus and Nauru the brutal treatment of children spreads here

The brutal treatment of asylum seeker children in detention centres dehumanises us all and makes sections of society in positions of some power more likely to abuse kids in Australia. The fight against child abuse in Australia has to include the fight against child abuse of those under our care on Manus Island and Nauru.

The Moss Review exposes the sexual and physical brutality on Nauru and all Tony Abbott can say is ‘things happen’

Let’s build the demonstrations against this sexual and physical brutality and violence and for refugees this coming Sunday, Palm Sunday, in capital and other cities across Australia. See you there.

Hell on Nauru: shut it down

Internal Department of Immigration reports have confirmed what refugee activists and advocates have been saying for months: Nauru is a torturous hell hole that is destroying the lives of the refugees sent there writes Socialist Alternative.

Labor’s concentration camp on Nauru may soon claim its first life

Omid, the Iranian asylum seeker on Nauru who has now been on hunger strike for 47 days, is rapidly deteriorating. It is likely he will die within the next few days. There are also five other Iranians on their 27th day of a hunger strike and 30 others who joined them last Friday.

Another message from those imprisoned in the Australian concentration camp on Nauru

In short period we have seen asylum attempted suiciding, self-harming, mentally disturbed, stressed, naked themselves, protests and hunger strikes. So what will be result in the future?

We request to the government and people of Australia save our lives and future.

Regards
Asylum seekers on Nauru

Close down Australia’s concentration camp on Nauru

Our task is great. Our struggle is important. To end the criminal refugee policies of our one percent we must build bigger and bigger demonstrations to force Labor to treat asylum seekers humanely and end the death trip it forces them into. While there are the various magnificent refugee groups working brilliantly for asylum seekers there is no significant revolutionary left in Australia that could defend refugees as part of its more general defence of workers and the oppressed.

Now more than ever we need a socialist alternative to give hope to refugees and those who support them and lead a real fight with a long term goal of having tens of thousands of people shutting down the centres of the major cities or striking to close down Australia’s concentration camps.

Please save our lives: Asylum Seekers on Nauru

We Asylum Seekers on Nauru request to the people of Australia to help the Oppressed and helpless asylum seekers in Nauru Hell to help them in shutting down of Nauru. Today on 1/11/2012 we have started hunger strike for unknown time, it is clear that we are dying here on every moment. Please save our lives.
