Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

New Matilda exposes the back story to the lies that led to the Northern Territory Intervention

But what was so stunning about it was that sitting right next to Kunoth-Monks was one of the chief perpetrators – and subsequent defenders – of that “lie”.

For the uninitiated, Tony Jones was once the full-time host of ABC Lateline, a late night ABC current affairs program that broadcast the story Kunoth-Monks is specifically referring to.

Here is the link to Chris Graham’s New Matilda article Without the Back Story, Q&A bombshell goes begging.

Australia’s racist Parliament continues its debasement

Now is the time for the Greens to mobilise their millions of supporters to fight for Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders and refugees against the two racist parties, Labor and the Liberals.

You can’t play by the Marquis of Queensbury rules when fighting racists, racists who are implanting the seeds of systemic racism and watering its shoots every day. Let’s cut down the seedlings before they become an impenetrable forest.

Call us out. Lead us in demonstrations against the racists and for Aboriginal empowerment, for sovereignty. Combine that with the struggle for refugees.

For God’s sake Greens, give focus to our anger. Lives depend on it.

Town camp leader outraged by Bess Price claims on Q and A

Barbara Shaw, spokesperson for the Intervention Rollback Action Group in Alice Springs and resident of Mt Nancy Town camp says that comments by Bess Price on Q and A about the “success” of the Intervention ignore the huge evidence of continuing failure.

Racism blooming in the Red Centre

Perhaps the fairest solution to the problems of both Booth and the town camps would be to expropriate Booth’s businesses and give the proceeds to the traditional owners. It would be far short of what is necessary to reverse years of racism and government policies of deliberate neglect, but it would certainly be a start.

The Northern Territory invasion: another failure of liberation from above

The Government’s own report says it all. The Northern Territory invasion is a failure. Closing the Gap in the Northern Territory shows that far from reducing the major indicators of despair, the rates of violence, substance abuse and child abuse have increased. School attendance rates have not changed at all. Jenny Macklin, Labor’s Indigenous Affairs Minister, […]

Aborigines, education and Cuban teams

Cuban educational teams in East Timor have improved literacy at low cost there.  Considering they run at about 30% of the cost of other NGO, UN etc programs which may not have the same success, imagine what could be achieved through funding the Cuban teams to the same extent. If the Australian Government invited them […]

Priests, the abuse of kids and state intervention

We invade the Northern Territory to ‘protect’ children. We outlaw bikie gangs for alleged crimes. Why not the same for the Catholic Church?
