Statement by Turkish revolutionaries: No to the coup! Fight for democracy!

This is a statement by the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Socialist Workers Party (DSİP) of Turkey on 16 July 2016 against the coup attempt. They finish off by saying: ‘The fight against the coup must be a fight for democracy, it must continue and be turned into a fight against the restrictions on democracy. Those who want to set up a military junta cannot win! The people will win! ‘

Eyewitness report from Ankara – Peace was bombed in Turkey

This is not the first time such events have happened in Turkey. The government has been trying such dirty methods for more than 30 years. But they did not win and they will not win this time. More people want peace in Turkey than want war with Kurdish people. The two trade unions that helped organise the peace demonstration have called two days of strikes on Monday and Tuesday of next week in protest. We’ll do our best to make the strikes successful and big. We demand the interior minister, prime minister and all the officials who were unable to provide the security of the demonstration must resign. We invite everyone who wants peace and democracy to vote for HDP in the coming election. And we say that PEACE WILL WIN!

No to intervention – victory to the Syrian revolution

We, socialists of Turkey and Syria, reject all political and military intervention of foreign powers to Syria; whether it is claimed against ISIS, Assad or the PKK. No to AKP-US intervention, victory to the Syrian revolution!

Turkey’s workers begin to move against repression

Spring comes to Turkey

Tom Gagné in Socialist Worker US explains how small protests to stop the demolition of a park in Istanbul snowballed into a challenge to the government and its machinery of repression.

Report from Turkey: A Taste of Tahrir at Taksim

This is not yet Tahrir writes Sungur Savran, editor of the newspaper Isci Mucadelesi (Workers’ Struggle) in Socialist Project. But demonstrations on the two continents of Istanbul, Asia and Europe at three in the morning, that is decidedly unusual and gives one a taste of Tahrir. This is not yet a revolution, but it is not only tear gas that marks the air in Istanbul. It is also a scent of revolutionary aspirations.
