War criminals kill one million in Iraq; all Gillard and Abbott talk about is parliamentary ‘standards’

If we were to have a serious debate about standards, the bloodthirsty and vicious nature of Australian capitalism would be first on the agenda. If we were serious about standards, Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott would be in prison awaiting extradition to the Hague for their war crimes and their genocide against Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders.

Solidarity with Palestine on trial

On 1 May 19 Melbourne activists will be put on trial for their political activity. In a precedent-setting case, these pro-Palestine activists will be fighting a variety of charges designed to criminalise dissent in Baillieu’s Victoria and intimidate supporters of Palestine in Australia.

Press Council adjudication No 1513 – criticising Israel is not anti-semitic

The council has concluded that the headline on the print version, “Anti-Jew protest condemned”, was a clear breach of the council’s standards of practice because it reported a matter of opinion as if a fact. It also failed reasonably to convey the tenor of the article itself, in which the original demonstration was described as “anti-Israel” but not as “anti-Jew”. Accordingly, the complaint against the headline is upheld on both these grounds.

Victorian unions support BDS against apartheid Israel

The Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC), the peak trade union body in Victoria, has passed a motion supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Campaign in support of Palestinian rights and opposing the police attacks on BDS protests at Max Brenner in Melbourne.

Pro-Palestinian protestors arrested in dawn raids

In one of the most severe crackdowns on civil liberties in decades, four pro-Palestine activists were arrested in dawn raids on 9 August in Melbourne.

The raids are part of an ongoing attempt by the Victorian government, the Victoria Police and the Zionist establishment to target activists involved in the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign.

Victoria: the state of repression

Raids carried out at dawn this morning by police have seen several pro-Palestine activists arrested, in the most severe crack-down on civil liberties in decades.

The activists are being targeted because of their involvement in protests against chocolate shop Max Brenner, a chain store with strong ties to the Israeli military

Victoria – the state of repression

Nineteen protesters were arrested during the action against the Israeli-owned Max Brenner store. The chocolateria in the Queen Victoria mall is owned by the Israeli conglomerate ‘Strauss group’; a company that provides “care rations” for one of the most brutal sections of the Israeli military, the Golani brigades.

Marrickville Council – continue to stand on the right side of history

The Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee (BNC), the broadest coalition of Palestinian political parties, trade unions, NGOs and networks, warmly salutes Marrickville council for its principled adoption of BDS.

Faced with on-going Israeli impunity on the one hand, and the failure of the international community to take any meaningful steps in support of justice for Palestinians on the other, BDS is an indispensable and uniquely effective, non-violent tool in holding Israel accountable for its violations of international law and furthering the demand for Palestinian rights. This movement is deeply inspired by the South African struggle for freedom, equality and justice.

The Australian : a paper of ignorant extremists

Apartheid is the word Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela have used to describe conditions for Palestinians under Israeli rule. No doubt they too in Sheridan’s view are prejudiced and politically sectarian. No doubt they too in Sheridan’s view are ignorant extremists.

Support left-wing Greens against the establishment’s attacks

The battle against injustice is universal. In Australia it is the struggle against our own rulers and the injustices they perpetrate and perpetuate here and overseas. More power to the left of the Greens in their battles for justice, not just for Palestinians but for Australians too.
