Queensland and the G20: the police state

Rebecca Barrigos writes in Red Flag:

To enable mass arrests, the Magistrates Court will be open 24 hours a day from 10 November. Magistrates will preside via video link at a special “G20 Offender Processing Centre” at the Supreme Court. There will be a presumption against bail in order to keep those arrested detained for the duration of the summit.

The real threat in Brisbane is not violent protesters, but the increase in the state’s powers.

Eurozone: bankrupt elites plot new assaults on workers

The eurozone crisis is all about bankruptcy. But this isn’t just economic. There is intellectual, moral, and political bankruptcy as well. During the Great Depression of the 1930s, Leon Trotsky wrote: “The historical crisis of mankind is reduced to the crisis of the revolutionary leadership.” Today,as the recent G20 meeting shows, it is the crisis of capitalist leadership that dominates.

The bosses’ attack on European living standards

The war of capital against labour waged via government policy has already intensified in Europe to a degree unseen since the 1930s Depression. The US has begun to follow suit. Mass layoffs and driving down wages has not been enough to revive economies. Austerity will not do the trick either; it will likely make things worse overall.
