Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Do politicians contribute to gay suicide?

The blood of men and women who suicide over their sexuality will be on Gillard’s hands and those of her Labor Party sycophants who refuse to legalise gay marriage.

We want all of our civil rights

Sherry Wolf, author of Sexuality and Socialism, is a leading figure in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual and Intersex movement in the United States. A campaigner for civil rights who has spoken across America, she has also written for publications including MRZine and New Politics. Socialist Alternative’s Louise O’Shea spoke to her about the fight for LGBTI rights in […]

Why is society so homophobic?

To many people today, especially young people, the ban on same-sex marriage is an anachronistic denial of a basic civil right – a throwback to a bygone age of intolerance and anti-gay bigotry. But the hostility of both Liberal and Labor governments to same-sex marriage is not simply the product of the prejudices of a […]

Canberra same sex marriage demonstration

Canberra’s  demonstration for same sex marriage is on this Saturday 28 November at 1 pm in Garema Place in Civic. I will be speaking at a Socialist Alternative meeting after the rally ends (about 2.30 pm I guess) in the back room of the King O’Malley pub (just around the corner from Garema Place) on Sexuality and […]

The Church and gay marriage in Canberra

Here in the Australian Capital Territory the Labor Party (in minority Government) supported a Greens’ Bill giving legal recognition to same sex unions which passed just under 2 weeks ago. Federally the homophobic and anti-equal rights Rudd Labor Government will suggest changes to the Act which effectively gut it. The local Catholic archbishop weighed in […]

Victorian State Labor Conference endorses same-sex marriage

Victorian State Labor Conference endorses same-sex marriage! Another sign of the momentum growing for the November 28 rallies for equality! Cross Campus Equal Love student groups and Community Action Against Homophobia (CAAH) welcomes the decision of the Victorian State Labor Party conference to endorse the demand for Same-Sex marriage rights. The motion, which was described […]

Equal love and the Labor Party

Yesterday my local Canberra legislature made same sex civil partnership ceremonies in the Australian Capital Territory legally binding. This is not marriage equality but it is a step in that direction.

Same sex marriage for Canberra?

The only way to end the political vilification of gays and lesbians and win true equality is to mobilise thousands on the streets and win trade unions to the campaign for same sex marriage.

Where to now for the same-sex marriage campaign?

Given the Rudd Government’s determination to maintain the homophobic ban on same-sex marriage, we need to keep the militant pressure up.

Canberra Labor – the political gay bashing continues

The ACT minority Labor Government is about to reject a Greens motion to legalise same sex marriage. They are going to vote against their own policy – a policy they took to the last election – because they don’t want to upset Kevin Rudd and the other reactionaries. CPSU affiliation to Canberra Labor has proved […]
